Your search might just be over. Here is ASSOUAN, a medium size shaped bowling bag with 2 top handles and a main zipper to close the bag at the top.  
It opens wide for easy access to the interior where you have a large divided slip pocket that allows you to store basic items like a mobile phone or even a wallet. You could also add another pocket (either a slip pocket or a zipper pocket) on the opposite side of the lining or possibly a key ring holder.
For the exterior, you have the option to make 2 different styles with detailed steps on how to make each style in the instructions. This could be the option of attaching a big tassel to the front exterior or making a big slip pocket closed with a flap on the front exterior where you can slide in few items for easy reach (this slip pocket can be embroidered or even designed with an appliqué if you so desire).
If you would like a shoulder strap, you can easily add 2 strap rings on each side of the main zipper.
This bag requires intermediate level sewing experience as you will be attaching a zipper, sewing around curves as well as sewing with piping.
